THE ICONIC ALBUM JOINS THE PRESTIGIOUS CATALOG RESIDING AT THE GRAMMY MUSEUM®
Today, the Recording Academy® announced that SELENA’s chart topping album ‘AMOR PROHIBIDO’ has been inducted into the 2026 GRAMMY Hall Of Fame®. Originally released in 1994, the iconic album meets the Hall’s criteria of recordings that are at least 25 years old and exhibit lasting qualitative or historical significance. The album will be honored at the GRAMMY Museum® and Recording Academy’s Grammy Hall Of Fame® Gala on May 8th at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA.
A defining release in Latin music history, ‘AMOR PROHIBIDO,’ which features hits such as “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” and title track “Amor Prohibido,” made history by being the first Tejano album to reach #1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums Chart. This achievement gifted Selena the recognition of becoming the second female Latin artist in history to top the chart while simultaneously being the first female Latin artist in history to chart a “non-crossover” recording on The Billboard 200.
“It’s a privilege to recognize Amor Prohibido as a Grammy Hall Of Fame inductee,” said Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy. “This album reflects the creativity, craft and cultural impact that has been carried across decades. We’re honored to help preserve this work and celebrate the artistry and community behind it, so its influence continues to inspire generations to come.”
“The Grammy Hall Of Fame is a vital bridge between music’s past and present, honoring recordings that changed the way we listen, create and connect,” added Michael Sticka, President/CEO of the Grammy Museum. “We’re proud to include SELENA’s ‘Amor Prohibido’ to this year’s class at the Grammy Hall Of Fame Gala this May.”
