The host has taken a summer hiatus from ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ but will be back on the show and in the studio in September.

Jimmy Kimmel is headed back to work — and back to his studio.
The ABC late night host will end his summer hiatus Sept. 21, the day after he hosts the Emmy Awards on the network. Jimmy Kimmel Live will return to its regular home at the El Capitan in Hollywood, and also return to its regular, one-hour format. The show has been airing half-hour episodes for the past few months.
Kimmel announced in June that he would be taking some time off from the show: «I’ve been doing this job for almost 18 years,» he said at the time. «I’ve done 3,130 shows and there’s nothing wrong. My family is healthy, I’m healthy. I just need a couple of months off.»
A series of guest hosts have filled in for Kimmel during that time. The show’s last guest hosts for the summer — Josh Gad, Brad Paisley, John Legend and Samuel L. Jackson — will take the Live reins the week of Sept. 7. The show will then be in repeats the week of Sept. 14 as Kimmel and his team prepare for the Emmys.
Kimmel follows several other late night hosts’ to return to in-studio production, some six months into the coronavirus pandemic. Jimmy Fallon was the first back, returning to his Tonight Show studio on NBC in mid-July, and CBS’ Late Late Show host James Corden returned to a redesigned Television City set in Los Angeles on Aug. 10. Conan O’Brien has been hosting his TBS show from L.A.’s Largo at the Coronet since early July, and Stephen Colbert is hosting CBS’ Late Show from a set in offices attached to the Ed Sullivan Theater, where he normally tapes the show. Seth Meyers is set to head back to his NBC studio Sept. 8.
